Conversations with Pops

A recent conversation with my 2.5 year old went something like this:

Pops: Mom, say ~Pops, what are you doing?
Me: What are you doing?
Pops: No, say ~Pops, what are you doing?
Me: Ohhh, Pops, what are you doing?
Pops: Watching the Lone Ranger.

Pops, watching The Lone Ranger

Me: Ok.  Pops, what are you wearing?
Pops: No, say Lone Ranger, what are you wearing?
Me: So you are the Lone Ranger now? Ok, Lone Ranger what are you wearing?
Pops: Uh, a gurl hat, underwares, and cowboy boots.
Me: Are you a girl?
Pops: No!
Me: Why are you wearing a girl hat?
Pops: A cowboy needs a hat!
Me: And where are your pants?
Pops: Cowboys don't need pants.
Me: oh, ok.
Pops: Say oh, ok Lone Ranger.

Pops, riding his "horse."

So particular!  Jeesh, this kid cracks me up!

Secret Identity

My boy loves to dress up. Having 4 sisters, I often have to remind him that he cannot wear the Princess Pretty costume.  Luckily, he really loves being a cowboy!

at the park the other day I said "Come here, my child" to my Lil' Bird.

"I am not your child, I am the Lone Ranger!" was his response.
BTW- You pronounce that Looooooohne Rain-ger

Dude, you're awesome!

After

Now you don't!

I have his curls in a little bag, and I am ok with that.
Turns out (as usual) my nervousness was for absolutely nothing.  Dad was totally right, he looks handsome and I love it.

Before...

Now you see the sweet little curls...

We went to visit our other home (our BFTKC's) in Milton, Florida for the weekend.  My friend Jill gave Butter her first haircut before we moved away so dad decided it'd be nice to have her give Pop's his first cut too.  I was really nervous!

Dad is putting his foot down.

I have to say good bye to the Little Curls.

Dad said~
There is a time for everything.
He will grow up.
He is a boy.
They aren't even really curls anymore.

I guess he is right.  Boo Hoo.

Be looking for some pictures with a little boy missing his curls.  And a momma with a tear or two.  :~)

It's Never Ever Boring!

Some children like to throw things in the potty and some even try to flush said things.  Not my youngest son.  He takes playing in the potty to a whole new level.

This was back in November, just minutes after getting out of the nice clean bath at the hotel my family was staying in...

of course, he went right back into the bath!!!

and this was yesterday...

why is this so fun for him?  Silly little boy!

Little Curls

I LOVE this boy's hair.  I think it is so sweet and precious.

Daddy wants to cut it.  Typical Military Man.  He thinks Pops looks like a girl.

I said we keep it until someone mistakes him for a girl.  Or, we can do it Old Testament style and wait til he weans then cut his hair and have a feast.

Either way, I'll cry when I say goodbye to his curls.

Already?

Pops has been saying potty for about two weeks now. He will shake his head yes or no (in the right direction too) if I ask him if he has a dirty diaper. These are the cues I look for to start potty training, but they don't usually come for quite a few more months.  Pops is only 15 months!

I thought maybe it was a fluke or just because of his advanced speech but few days ago he pulled off his own pants, patted his diaper and said he had to go.  I took off his diaper and he promptly peed on my foot.  It was awesome!

Then he said poo-poo so dad put him on the big potty.

would you believe it, he went!

Twice now!

Did I mention he is only 15 months?

It would be so awesome to have him trained before the new baby comes.

Too bad the smallest big boy undies fall off his tiny little behind.

Happy Boy!

Tonight we had a dessert of pretty Valentine cookies after our dinner.  As soon as Pops saw the cookies he started doing his little dance.  He rocks his head back and forth almost touching ear to shoulder and slowly sways from side to side, while saying "Happy Day" in a sing song voice, filled with excitement.  This totally makes my day happy!  Everyone at the table started laughing and I am pretty sure it made everyone's cookie a little more exciting.

The Birthday Celebration ~ Lil' Bird is ONE!

Birthday Cake is so much fun, especially when you are ONE!

Just like each of my babies, he tried to touch the beautiful flame...

But it didn't take him long to discover the good stuff.

and man, is it good!

Yeah! This is great!

Cake is good, and being the center of attention is good too!

Sweet boy loves to share!

Happy Birthday Pops!

Time to wash off the frosting! Good thing he loves bath time.

Presents came in the mail from Grandparents

and then presents from mom and dad

you must always taste everything!

he sure knew what to do with this one!

and a new Aviator jacket to boot!

He didn't notice he had to wait a day to celebrate, and he had a great day.

Happy Birthday Little Bird!

My, oh my, a whole year has gone by! It brings a tear to my eye. I just made that rhyme on the fly. Ok, I didn't right a sweet little poem for my boy, but I did just get his journal in the mail today. Perfect timing to start writing to him.

One year ago today I went to co-op like normal and met my best Culburrito friend for the first time. I hung around the house with another sweet friend and I was feeling pretty good. It wasn't until Boy casually said mid conversation "Mom, I think you need to sit down" that I finally decided to call Dad. I still wasn't convinced it was time, but he said lets go on head since it was an hour drive to the hospital. Our little Bird arrived by VBAC only 1.5 hours after we arrived. I don't think it could have been better.
He was almost 3 weeks early and 7lbs 2oz with super sweet blond hair.

His first week was full of hugs and kisses and so much love!

The poor lil' guy has an aspiring photographer for a mother, but he was happy to provide and adorable model for me to practice.

Our sweet boy became and actor at only a few weeks old, and he played his part perfectly. A nearby church called and asked if we could perform as Mary, Joseph, and Jesus for their performance. It was an awesome experience.

For Christmas Bird made his first road trip, a drive to mama's hometown near Chicago. There Lil Bird met almost all of his extended family, saw his uncle graduate from Boot Camp, took a train into and went around the Windy City inside the warmth and comfort of mama's shirt.

In January he was looking bright eyed!

and he was laughing in February.

in March we went to Louisiana for a life changing Above Rubies retreat and Pops discovered his tongue.

April brought two teeth and good sleep.

In May he had his first swim and we discovered he loves water!

During June we went camping at the Blue Angel Beach and he ate some sand, and he celebrated Daddy's selection as a Jet Pilot.

In July we made our move to Mississippi. Pops discovered the freedom of not wearing a diaper and began running away during diaper changes.

In August Pops is happy to show his irritation when he isn't getting his way! He enjoyed a trip to the Rodeo and loves to cuddle with Dad and Mom. He also started walking this month!

In September Pops had a visit from his grandparents and the Culburritos. He is so silly and is a wonderfully happy boy!

And today he is ONE!

This year has sure gone by fast, but has been truly blessed by having this lil' guy to enjoy. His hair is still blond, he has 7 teeth, and he can run. When he starts to stumble he puts his hands up in the air as if to hold on, walks in a little circle until he rights himself and then keeps on going without falling. He looks a bit like Jack Sparrow and it makes us all laugh! Lil' Bird loves to explore and climb on anything he can reach. He also loves to snuggle, sing, and dance, and squeal. I think my favorite is the snuggling though, it sure warms my heart. It is wonderful to have a baby in the house! Happy Birthday Pops!
