I Love Lucy!

Pardon the intrusion in the Flashback posts, I finally have internet and this is just too good not to share!

So our BFTKC friends had a new baby.  This is number 8 for them.  They are not crazy (well, just enough to make us like them) though many think so.  I am gushy-smiling for them, because they had a girl.  And they had her at home (I'm serious, they are not crazy.)  If you want to know why this is so special, you can read about it here.  But I just can't stop getting all teary-eyed for them!  Too bad we now live on the exact opposite side of the country...

We are kind of a mess over here.

Not even a week after Bucket was born we got a sickness in the house. Pops came down with a super high fever while we were on a trip to Florida (yes, we were on a trip, it was a special event). It ended up being a sad trip. We went to see Daddy Culburrito get his wings and to say good-bye to our BFTKC'S because orders to move far away came with the wings. With a sick Pops, we spent most of our time hiding in a hotel so as not to get a pregnant Mama Culburrito or her brood sick and didn't really get to spend time with anyone...
We returned home from the exhausting weekend and were welcomed by a flooded house! Someone closed the gray water tank and someone else left the water on a trickle for the cats. That tiny little trickle flooded the gray tank and the bathtub and left an inch of water on the floor. We had to empty out much of the house into the 105 degree sunshine. What a long, hot day! Thankfully we have a family in Christ here. Our Pastor and another man came with shop vacs and fans to suck up and dry out the trailer. We stayed with another family for two days while the house dried out. This was actually a wonderful time, we made some new friends and they even helped us celebrate Sis's 6th Birthday. What a generous body ! The only damage is the carpet is now swirled with discoloration, and several books and a few other things were ruined.
After being back home for just 2 days, Sis was knocked down with the fever. This morning Dad, Guys, and Boy all woke up with pink eye. Uhg! I am trying to keep the germs off Bucket, take care of the sic-kies, get enough sleep, and stay sane.
So if you don't mind, say a little prayer for us.
This too, shall pass!

A Good Laugh

I mentioned to my sweet BFTKC friend that I often struggle with fear during pregnancy.  She sent me this to help out.

Now, if I could just STOP IT!

Thanksgiving Traditions...

This year we had a food fight for Thanksgiving. Well, it was the weekend before Thanksgiving, but in celebration of it none-the-less. That is right, we had a full on mashed potato throwing, macaroni slinging, jell-o smacking food fight with our Culburrito Friends.

The children had been talking about it for months, devising up plans and ending phone calls and emails with "are you ready for mashed potatoes in your face?!" They boys had well thought out plans of making launchers and slingshots to attack the adults. The adults were trying to plan the best and most frugal foods to waste, and figure out where the least damage would be done.

We realized we were loosing light fast and since we didn't want to start the fight with the actual Thanksgiving food with-in reach, we quickly came up with a plan. We took the bowls of the throwing food outside while the children were off playing and completely unsuspecting. I was finishing up last minute dinner preparations when I was called outside by another adult to finish helping out there. I stepped out side and got mashed potatoes in the face. All of the sudden the adults were all slopping food at each other and the children were no where in site! It didn't take long though, they probably heard the squeals of hilarious laughter. 4 adults, 1 teen-ager, and 9 children covered themselves, the porch, the grill, the yard, the dogs, and everything else in sight with a Thanksgiving feast.

Once the food was gone and we all looked at each other with mashed potatoes dripping out of our noses and jell-o clumps falling out of our hair, we realized we had forgotten to plan the cleaning up part. Clumps of mashed potatoes fell on the floor as we took turns taking showers. I was one of the lucky few that got a warm shower.

The two babies missed out on the fun, but I think they watched from the back door. The two two-year-olds didn't really fight with the food at all. I think they were baffled by this horrible disregard from all of the rules there were ever taught about table manners, I am not really sure. Butter was very upset when mashed potatoes landed in her cup of water and she refused to throw the carrots I gave her. I heard her a few days later though, talking to herself early one morning. She said "next time we dunna have a food fight, I not dunna cry, and I dunna frow food at my daddy and friends" so that was reassuring.

The next day the children were extremely excited to tell their friends at church all about putting mashed potatoes in the parents faces and hair.

I didn't take my camera outside, you understand, but we did have a couple of video cameras set up in the yard. Some day I will upload the video.

Even without pictures, I think this is a Thanksgiving feast that will never be forgotten.

Our Adventure for Leif Erickson Day

I don't like when so many days pass without a blog post because then I have a ton of posts floating in my head and don't know which ones to share.

We woke up on a couple Friday morning's ago and saw that it was Leif Erickson day. Since Dad wasn't on the schedule for work and we are about to finish our study on Leif, we decided to take a voyage. See, when you homeschool and aren't tied down to your stuff you can wake up and decide to do completely spontaneous things and have fun adventures.

So we got in our Viking Ship (big van) and set out to explore a new world. Somehow or another the new land we discovered was Milton, Florida. More specifically, it was at our friends, aka the Culburrito's house. Funny how that worked out. It's a 3.5 hour drive and the kids didn't start asking if we were really on a Leif adventure until we entered Milton. They knew we were on the road to Florida, but I think they thought we were going to the ocean or something. We played as thought the waves were taking us where the wind blew all the way until we pulled in the Culburrito's driveway. The children giggled at our surprise.

We planned on staying the weekend and we ended up staying for a whole week. We might be getting addicted to all the sugar they feed us. Actually, we just like how awesome they are and how much we learn from them. I think they learn from us too, though I am not sure what.

4 adults, 1 teenager, 9 children, 2 babies, 3 dogs and 3 cats.
In a 4 bedroom house.
Relaxing.

Bet you don't believe me. But, seriousely, it was totally calm, laid back, and fun. And in the words of the 1 teenager - is was awesome, totally awesome.

Since we said goodbye to them in Milton back in July, we only had plans to see them for Thanksgiving. We have something big planned. We have actually seen them three times already, and are really glad for it.
The 3.5 hour drive is nothing, but it's going to be so sad when they transfer off to the other side of the country for their next part of flight school...

Look out Milton, here we come!

Well, Mr. Pilot left yesterday to go out to sea. He is such a sailor, it is like the boat calls his name. By the way, I think there is a rule that you can only call it a boat if you are actually in the Navy, because it's a ship. Today he'll get to ride in a C-2 (plane) and trap on a carrier that is out in the ocean somewhere. In 7 days he'll get to take off from the carrier to come home.

Trap: (The (future) pilot's wife definition) The pilot of the plane has to land on a boat by catching a wire with a hook at the bottom of the plane to stop them from crashing in the ocean. If he misses the runway, he crashes into the boat. If he misses the boat, he crashes into the ocean. If he misses the wire, he crashes into the ocean.

Carrier Take-off: (The (future) pilot's wife definition) The boat isn't long enough for the plane to gain enough speed to take-off and it would just drop off the end of the boat into the ocean if it tried, so the plane is flung off the boat like a rock in a high speed sling shot. If the pilot pulls up too quickly, he crashes into the ocean. If he doesn't pull up fast enough, he crashes into the ocean.

Do you notice the crashing into the ocean theme here?

While this is all very awesome and exciting for Mr. Pilot, it is not so much for me. So, in true Navy Wife fashion, I am going out of town while he is gone. It helps the time pass.
We are going to visit the "Culburrito's" and the rest of our wonderful friends we left behind in Florida. We are staying with the Culburrito's and their 7 children. We are prepared to have a blast. I am going to visit my Help Meets group, go to our old Church, and our homeschool co-op. We are also going to Target and the Waterfront Mission. There isn't a Target with-in an hour drive from us here, and even though I am not going to buy anything, I just want to go inside and remember... The Mission is where we got all of our clothes for $2.99 and I am in need of a few items. I haven't been able to buy them here because I couldn't allow myself to pay $19.99 for something when I know I can get it for $2.99

We are all very excited. For the last week or so, every time I mention the trip the children sing the Doxology. It is quite funny. They have been asking since 6am if it is time to go yet. We are going to MOPS first, and that doesn't even start for 2 more hours. Then we have to come back home and pick up our pets and then drive 4 hours to Florida. It might be a long day.

I am glad my husband gets to do what he loves to do. Seeing that sparkle in his eyes is totally worth it. I am glad that we are able to take this trip. I am glad that we have friends that are willing to put up with us, er, I mean, put us up for the week.

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow...
